No doubt about it, 2018 was a fantastic year for me and my family. Sure, I had my own fair share of upsets and trials but for the most part, it was one of the best years of my life. Good food, great adventures and the best memories with my loved ones are what keeps me going.
Thank you 2018 for being awesome!
So to start a blogging tradition, today, on the 1st of January, I am celebrating the best of my 2018, and my hopes and goals for 2019.
My 2018 Highlights
KGB in Wanderland Blog
I first toyed with the idea of starting a blog in 2017, right before our Rome trip. I opened up a free WordPress blog, posted my very first travel-related article, and realized that this could be the start of a great new adventure. However, I didn’t feel at home with my blog name then so I scrapped the whole thing off and decided to start all over.
When I finally decided on the name, I bought the domain and went self-hosted so I could have complete control over my blog. This was one of the best things that I did for myself in a very long time. Ten months after, I have over 50 articles posted, earned my initial investment back, and have no intention of stopping anytime soon.
June Seoul Family Trip
This was the first time we traveled alone as a trio and we had a blast! Seoul is the perfect destination for families with little kids and the list of activities you can do are endless. We spent a day in Everland, ate street food in Myeongdong, rode the cable car up to Seoul N Tower and visited the Gyeongbokgung and National Folk Museum of Korea.
But more than anything, what made this trip memorable is that it somehow sparked the wanderlust in our daughter. And she only turned three years old during that trip! It amazes me how much she remembers from that trip, and every single day she tells me that she wants to ride the airplane and go places. That’s my girl!
October Canada Family Trip
Another travel highlight is our two-week road trip vacation in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. Let me just say that I am very fortunate to have someone in my life who has influenced the way I travel and is willing to take me and the rest of the family to places we can only dream about.
Out of all the places we visited, the one that made the most impact on me was Quebec City. It was just so beautiful! Despite the cold weather, I enjoyed every minute spent walking the streets of Old Quebec Town, every corner is Instagram-worthy! I am grateful for the chance to visit this city, the 8-hour drive from Toronto was definitely worth it.

The red door that had other tourists looking at us as if we’re crazy. But what’s so special about this door that Asian tourists are taking turns for a photo? It’s actually the back door of #theatrepetitchamplain but #k-drama fans will recognize it as the #goblinkdrama door connecting Seoul to Quebec City #goblinshootinglocation #quebeccity #canada #petitchamplain #travelblog #igtravel #traveldiary #wanderlust #instatravel #canadatravel
Food, travel and blogging are my passions but my family is my everything. I am grateful for my husband whose love knows no boundaries. I am blessed for my daughter who is smart, happy and healthy. I am thankful for the rest of my family back home without whom I won’t be standing where I am today.

My 2019 Goals
Spend Quality and Distraction-Free Time with Family
Our darling daughter is turning four in June which means that she could start school this year. Although we haven’t made a final decision on whether to enroll her in school or keep her home-schooled for one more year, I feel like now is my last chance to have her all to myself. She’s growing up so fast and soon she’ll have her own thing going on that I better make the most out of our time spent together.
My biggest distraction is modern technology (cell phone, iPad, laptop – you name it) and although I can’t completely wipe these things off my system, I am making a very conscious effort this year to keep my usage to minimal (or turn it off completely!) during precious family time. This includes play time with my daughter, meal times and when we are out together as a family.
Learn to Self-Care
My duties as a mother and wife will always be my priority but I also need to learn to take care of myself and not feel guilty when I want a little indulgence. Even if it’s just a good coffee, a haircut or even a calming face mask before bedtime, I need to set aside a few minutes of my day to check on me, ask me what I want and give me time to rest and relax before I move on to my next task of the day.
Take my Blog to the Next Level
My first blogging year has been amazing and I even ended the year cashing out real earnings from my blog. But this new year, I plan on investing more of my time (and money if needed) learning, producing quality content, and hopefully, come up with more monetization options for me. I know that I still have a very long way to go but I am positive that at least I am going in the right direction.
One of the things that will help me fulfill this goal is to map out my blogging (editorial) calendar. I am a pen and paper kind of person and I’ve been contemplating on bullet journals as a way to organize my blogging activities but for now, I have settled for a simple Google Sheets file that should help me plan my posts, list my things to do, and organize my thoughts and ideas. If you are looking for a simple Blogging Calendar, let me know. I’m happy to share it with you!
Be More Positive
It’s easy to be all bubbly, fun and absolutely carefree online but offline, it’s a different story. Life can sometimes be so overwhelming and difficulties can really take the sunshine out of anyone.
This may be my biggest revelation on this blog: I suffer from depression. Although things have turned dramatically better over the past two years, especially with the help of my family and my new hobby (one of the many benefits of blogging), some things can still trigger me from time to time. I am honestly tired of the struggle and if only there is a pull the plug option, I would have yanked it years ago. But, it is what it is. I am what I am.
It’s easier said than done, telling myself to be more positive with my thoughts, words and actions. But we all need to start somewhere and if reminding myself to be positive can save me and my loved ones from the pain, I’ll take it.
My husband is my rock throughout this whirlwind journey. I owe him a healthy relationship and that’s what I intend to give.
Learn a New Skill or Hobby
Maybe I already have too much on my plate as of the moment but I like the challenge and I love learning new things. With the help of this blog, I am learning to be a better writer, something which I thought I could never do. I’m still a pessimist about it, to be honest. But I also want to learn something else, maybe some calligraphy, watercolor artwork or even knitting! Still undecided but there are definitely a lot of options!
Live a Healthier Lifestyle
This is probably the hardest of all of my goals, bad habits are the hardest to break! However, I need to start taking care of me and my family’s health. I will do my best in making healthier choices when it comes to the food we eat. It is by no means an easy feat and will probably take more than a year before we can fully embrace a healthier lifestyle (I’m a big junk food eater) but it’s a good start.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Cheers to a new year!
