When my mother-in-law came to Guam last February for a visit, my husband and I thought it would be nice for the family to eat lunch at Niji Japanese Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Resort Guam in Tumon. (Full disclosure: My husband works at Hyatt and he received a discount voucher for Niji, to be used on his birthday month. We used that discount voucher for this lunch.)

I first had the pleasure of eating at Niji with a friend back in 2011 during my internship days. I remember going back maybe a couple of times more during my year-long internship stint in Guam. I consider it to be one of the best lunch buffets the island has to offer.

Hyatt Regency Resort is a 5-star luxury hotel located just a few steps away from Pleasure Island (Tourist Shopping District) in Tumon, Guam.

The hot items/main course area is in a room with an open kitchen concept (it’ll be to your left from the entrance). Here you’ll find the teppanyaki, tempura, ramen and shabu-shabu stations.

Yes, the grilled meat (I’m looking at you Angus beef!) deserves a second photo.

The sushi station is on the left side of the main dining area. There is an assortment of nigiri, maki and temaki sushi in this area as well as some pickled veggies/salad.

My happy tummy enjoyed these and more:

Reservations are recommended. They can get pretty busy during lunch especially on weekends.

This was actually the second time we ate at Niji since I moved back to Guam. It remains as one of my favorite restaurants in Guam, although I would like it better if they offer more variety with the dessert. I feel that at almost $40 per pax, we deserve a little extra when it comes to the variety of food. They did, however, serve all the classic Japanese dishes one could expect from a typical Japanese restaurant and hey, the quality of food is still one of the best on the island. I’m pretty sure that this is not my last plate of food from Niji.
